I started watching this on Netflix online and have become addicted to the series. After my disappointment with both Friday Night Lights and Roswell, I was hesitant, hoping that after the first few episodes it would still be riveting. It has been riveting and I looked forward to every episode from the first to the most recent one, which appears to be the last one. It’s one of the best series that has been done recently, so if you have not yet watched it? I highly recommend it.
Another great classic movie is “Imitation of Life” from 1934, starring Collette Colbert. It’s for me a black and white movie that has some tear potential moments. The story line involves a widow with a young girl who befriends another woman with a young child, it touches on racism, feminism and shows the cultural differences between the white and black community at that time frame as well as how it began to change. It also deals with issues between mothers and daughters…This is not the trailer, it’s the first section of the movie.
I love classic movies, and of course in my other life, I cover politics so it’s no surprise to some of you that “All the President’s Men” is one of my favorites. At times I debate with myself as to which one would I rather be - the fact oriented Woodward (which in a way is more me with my job/reputation as a fact checker) or the more passionate Bernstein who wants to push the lines on fact and go into the conspiracy theory aspect of the story.
Winona Ryder’s acting was not what made this a good movie for me, she was okay but it was the stories that were told of the women involved in the quilting that made the movie one that I’m sorry that I missed watching earlier. This one does have a tear factor warning for those of us who are a bit more sentimental. It is a definite chick flick worth viewing…
I haven’t seen Inception yet, though from what I can gather, the following preview only gives you a hint as to what the movie is like. It’s been interesting to read articles about it and the “spoiler alert” warnings so that those who want to experience the full movie don’t get any hints as to what happens…
For those us fans of Harry Potter, this Times article is a highly recommended read. Part of:
But what’s here is choice. Unlike the candy-colored palette of any Disney park, black, gray and white are the dominant shades at the Wizarding World: the daunting slate of Hogwarts, the subtly ornamented shops, all capped by the rooftops’ perpetual snow, which in the oppressive summer heat serves as both a daydream and a taunt to sweltering guests. Cute, or Disney’s robust American form of it, is out. Quaint, British-style, is in. The Wizarding World is a bit like Stratford-upon-Avon, except that Rowling, not Shakespeare, is the presiding genius. And you don’t walk into the house she once lived in; you experience the dream she created.
Want to watch a movie that will make you wish you had access to a good testosterone booster? Then you might want to check out Ironman 2 - the music choices alone are enough to make you want to rock the house. The trailer is very well done as far as making you really want to drop everything and head out to watch the movie. Maybe at the drive in since it’s that time of year.
This does sound like fun from Wired:
Batman, Iron Man and the Hulk walk into a bar. Where they run into Doc Octo-Mom, Male Drag Wonder Woman, Brief Justice and The Panty Raider and dozens of other superheroes and costumed criminals.
Everybody gets smashed.
It’s just another fun-filled night on the town with the Drunken Justice League, the loose association of caped crusaders and supervillains behind the annual Superhero Crawl in Reno, Nevada.
“Most of the heroes seem to be affected by Jell-O shots,” evil masterminds Gator Lanphear and Matt Goedert told Wired.com in an e-mail interview dispatched from Drunken Justice League headquarters. “It’s their kryptonite, so the villains are always trying to buy them multiple rounds.”
The JDL expects 800 to 1,000 costumed cocktailers at this year’s event, which takes place Saturday in “The Biggest Little City in the World.”
Because of a chance comment in the Toledo Free Press Star about Lisbeth Salander, I became curious, so I searched Netflix and found one of the movies with her online - The girl with the dragon tattoo. I normally don’t like foreign films with subtitles. This one was definitely worth watching, the plot line was not predictable. It’s def not for the kiddies though…
I’m a fan of the original not the re-make even though I know the book the movie was based on is in actuality closer to the remake. Earlier today I was feeling blue…it made me happy so the trailer for you to enjoy so you can “feel the wonder all over again.”
I’ve been dealing with some health issues, so I’ve been trying to take it easy and during the moments when I’m under the influence of pain medication I try to stay away from my blogs (smile). Since I also have not been able to sleep some nights this has made me watch more things on Netflix, so I’ve been checking out series. Few have grabbed my interest but Friday Night Lights did. I watched all of seasons 1 and 2 though I was really disappointed in some of the story line changes that took place from 2 to 3 - they didn’t fit. My interest started to wane as 3 was not as good as season one or two but I did finish watching all of 3. Four is not available to watch online through Netflix yet, so when that does happen I’ll see if the show improves or continued to decline…
I’m allergic to mosquitoes, when I get bitten the bit swells up to bigger than a half dollar. Last night two little buggers managed to get into our bedroom somehow and bit me before I discovered and murdered them. This made me think about one of my favorite movies, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” when Lula wakes to discover a pimple on her wedding day, as the various acne treatments including Windex are proclaimed, one of the Aunts after peering at the pimple declares, “It’s a mosquito bite.”
With the recent death of Dennis Hopper, of all of the movies he starred in, Easy Rider was not the first movie to come to my mind. Though I have watched Easy Rider many times and it is a classic, the film Blue Velvet sticks in my mind as a memorable Dennis Hopper performance. The movie was a favorite of my fathers, it is not your typical flick, it has it’s disturbing moments but Hopper’s performance made the movie what it was.
I actually remember watching this version of the “Taming of the Shrew” at the drive in with my parents when I was almost 8 years old. It’s one of the recent Taylor classics I watched on Netflix during my Elizabeth Taylor movie insomnia theater. What’s also interesting to point out is the design of the trailer from 1967.
One good thing about my recent bout of insomnia is I’ve used it to watch classic movies on Netflix. Recently I’ve focused on movies starring Elizabeth Taylor, which no Taylor movie fest could be complete without watching the classic “Cleopatra” — the trailer for which thankfully someone was kind enough to put on YouTube…
It’s not often I label a movie as “worst movie ever” but Life Blood a campy lesbian vampire flick was horrid. The plot was bad, the acting was bad and I barely was able to finish watching it without exiting out of my Netflix account. The only good thing about Life Blood is I didn’t waste any money on renting it. Don’t…
My youngest came to me yesterday and asked me if I could remember a movie about two girls who both had babies and neither one got the sex of the baby that they wanted and the dad was kind of crazy. This is often the type of research question I get, with barely enough information to find something, yet I try. Using a variety of search terms, finding several movies about teen mothers that were not the right one. Bingo…It was Riding in cars with boys that she remembered seeing with her sisters about 9 years ago. The next adventure was finding it online so she could watch it. That mission was accomplished too.
In a case of don’t let the name fool you, Paperman is not about a superhero similar to Ironman, though it does contain an imaginary superhero…This one appears to be a chick flick type movie and rating by trailer alone, I’d have to say it would make the DVD rental/Netflix category as opposed to one that creates a burning desire to see in theaters…
I want to believe this will be a good movie, the trailer is good. However, having been disappointed in the past when it comes to similar movies, I’m withholding judgement. This is one that appears have enough special effects that seeing it in a theater would be worth it. Once you can get the song out of your head for those of us from the older generations…
I wanted to see Season of the Witch but alas it was not in the theaters so, my husband and I on a rare movie date (it was our 10th wedding anniversary) saw Clash of the Titans. I’m glad we went to the matinée, as the story line was way out of kilter as to the original movie. The special effects were okay but nothing fantastic with the fight scenes not done in a fluid manner. This one is worth renting and viewing but not worth buying nor seeing in the theater…
